Support for "Like A Hammer", a new performance bringing together Native American powwow culture, drumming, and house music.
I am developing a new performance work titled Like A Hammer. The final performance will involve ten dancers wearing identical outfits adorned entirely with metal jingles, brass bells, and other sound-making materials. Jingles are found adorning the dresses of traditional jingle dancers at Native American pow wows. They were originally the tops of tobacco and snuff containers that were turned and used to adorn jingle dresses. The dancers will be choreographed to make sounds with their entire bodies as they move through performance and public spaces. Additional layers of sound, including drumming and house music, will be added to the overall performance.
