I build experimental sculptures and environments that remix ephemera I gather from neighborhoods I live in with fantasy nature, technicolor, outerspace, and Funk. I construct fantastical spaces to counter oppressive architecture and spatial metaphors that reinforce states of tension, inferiority, and stereotypes. The resulting works are surreal archetypes of social space that offer a transcendent proposition for the future of marginalized communities. They are spaces of hypothesis for proposing aspirational narratives anchored by vernacular cultures and materials that exist in neighborhoods. The goal is community building—to revalue ephemera and existing forms as a method of restyling space in the form of works and monuments that the public recognizes as theirs. The work functions as aesthetic socio-political records that aim to facilitate liberation, self-definition and economic autonomy for communities.
