Support for the development of a new movement-based performance about corporeal inhabitation, racialized skin and concealment in the age of surveillance.
I am an Oakland-based performance artist from the US/Mexico border who performs and often works under the alias of La Chica Boom. I use hyperbolized modes of racialization and sexualization to test the boundaries between my own body and coloniality, compulsory whiteness, and Mexicanidad. My practice integrates performance, sex acts, and burlesque with video, photography, and objects. Throughout my multiple works, I use my body to problematize the borders between proper and improper racial, gender, and queer subject and I teeter between spectacular abjection and joy.
