Grant Program
Overview
Art Matters gives no-strings-attached grant support to artists and collectives who confront the most urgent social issues of our time. For 40 years, the Foundation has remained committed to true artist empowerment—from advocating for artists’ freedom of expression to supporting the relationships that sustain them.
Current Program
In 2021, we began Artist2Artist—a program where artists both receive a grant and designate a grant to another artist. Each year, we engage a nomination process with artists and culture workers at the national level, culminating in each year’s fellowship cohort. In recognition of artists’ autonomy, all grants are unrestricted.
We believe that the artists we support are the clearest reflection of our values. Listed below, you will find an archive of Art Matters grantees’ work, including bios, statements, media, and links to ongoing projects. We invite you to explore this archive with the same curiosity that propels their work and ours.
